What Kind Of Well Pump Is Right For You?
Do you need to get a well pump installed on your property? A well pump could very well be a necessity for you and your family, you need water on a daily basis of course, but you should still take the time to research the options available to you before calling up a local contractor to begin installation. Most contractors will tell you that there are 3 different types of well pumps. Here's what you need to know so that you can make a decision that is right for you.
A submersible water well pump tends to be the most popular choice of well pump for getting water from below ground. It can be used to get water out of a shallow or a deep water well. This pump is usually recommended by many contractors as being one of the most efficient well pumps available, you'll be able to get quite a bit of water out of a deep water well without as much effort as the other pumps. When looking at submersible pumps, take a look at the horsepower rating. The more horsepower the pump has, the more water you will be able to get out of it within any specific amount of time.
Centrifugal or Shallow Pumps
This well pump setup is designed only for shallow wells. The pump itself is not submerged but rather starts above ground in the form of a pipe. The pipe is installed so that it goes underground, down into the well. If you have a shallow well and are on a budget, this might be the best option for you as it is typically the cheapest to install. But if your shallow well goes down more than 20 feet, you still might be better off with another type of pump.
Jet pumps can be used for either shallow wells or deep wells. They are built differently though depending on what type of well you have, so make sure you discuss the options with the contractor in advance. Jet pumps are popular with land owners whose water level tends to fluctuate. You have the option with a jet pump of installing an ejector assembly while your water level is running deeper, past 25 feet. But if your water level changes to under 25 feet, a jet pump can be altered to use a shallow well nozzle instead so that you can still efficiently get water out until the water level returns to its normal level.
There are three main types of well pumps: Submersible, Shallow and Jet. The type you need likely depends on the type of water well you have and whether or not your water table fluctuates on a regular basis. Discuss your well with a professional contractor and heed any advice on the pump installation that you are given.
